The dam project was finished late last year and was a way of mitigating a loss of water through our far valley re-afforestation project due to the building of a sub-division in our watershed. The project was managed by Michael Payne and the WEST board, the developer and Wanganui District Council agreed that diverting the stormwater from the sub-division through our valley, where the water would have gone anyway (but underground) was a good idea. The engineers got to work and we are now waiting for more rain to see how it all works.
First rain into the dammed area. View from the west.
Spot the flume top centre where the water will overflow into the lower valley and soak away to the Tangingongoro stream out the the Whanganui river.
