Spiritual Nurture Programme – Gathering One

Event details

  • Friday | 18 February 2022 to Sunday | 20 February 2022
  • 6:00 pm
  • 76 Virginia Rd Otamatea Whanganui

Deepening your spiritual life in the context of your Quaker community

“Quakers have always seen the outer life as an expression of the inner and therefore have been both mystics and activists. Deepening our spiritual roots is an ongoing process that gives our work in the world a greater integrity and authenticity”

Quaker Faith and Practice in Aotearoa New Zealand 6.01

The programme is for nine months, beginning in February 2022. It includes three gatherings at Whanganui settlement starting at 18.00 with dinner and ending with lunch on the last day:

18th-20th February
7th-14th July
11th-13th November
If COVID alert levels prevent travel online alternatives will be organised.

The programme is designed to develop organically within a framework of Quaker experience, wisdom and resources.

The residential sessions will offer tools, experiential exercises, resources and time for exploration, to help deepen your spiritual life as well as time for fun and fellowship. Together we shall decide on the areas most wanted or needed to explore.

There will be activities between the residential sessions, including reading and personal reflective projects.

To make the best of the gift you are giving yourself through this programme, allow yourself several hours each week for it.

As well as ongoing support from the facilitators each participant is asked to find two or three Friends to form a support group that can meet at least monthly. This group will offer a space for listening, reflecting, and fostering the spiritual exploration of the participant. Mutual sharing is intended to strengthen the spiritual life, not only for the participant, but of the community of Friends. Hopefully they will meet before the first gathering.

Each participant is encouraged to complete two personal projects during the programme. The first is a spiritual autobiography, reflecting on how you got to where you are now. The topic and form of the second project is chosen by the participant.

Cost should not deter anyone from enrolment in the programme.

Funding is available from:

·       Your MM via your pastoral and spiritual care committee

·       Quaker Education Fund (QEF) via your pastoral and spiritual care committee

If you are able to pay the full cost it is estimated to be between $700 and $900 depending on the level of accommodation. All meals and common resources are included. Please note that all meals will be vegetarian and additional dietary requirements can be accommodated.
